The Religion eZine - What Do Numbers Mean?
Introduction to Numerology
By Charles Moffat - 2008.
For years now I have been wanting to build a high quality website about numerology. One of the problems seems to be that no one has really built a good website on the topic. There is a lot of websites out there that are confusing and badly designed and so I want this to be perfectly understandable and easy to use.
The basic idea behind numerology is that if you reduce numbers and letters down to their most basic numbers by addition (ie. 27, 2+7 = 9) that those numbers have some kind of specific meaning. It is a bit like greek and chinese astrology in a way, but the primary interest is in the value of numbers and how they effect your life supposedly. Supposedly the value of numbers was first noticed by the Greek mathematician Pythagoras. Each number has a particular meaning and certain numbers (11 and 22 are known as "master numbers") have special meaning.
Always use your full name at birth. No nicknames, short forms or spelling variations. Changing your name, getting married, etc. doesn't count. Ignore zeros.
The first step in numerology is to reduce your full name (or in the case "Wayne Douglas Gretzky") to a single number using the chart above. Ignore 11s and 22s unless it is the final number. This number tells you the direction your life will take. It doesn't mean you will succeed.
So for "Wayne Douglas Gretzky" it becomes 51755 4637311 7952827 = 23 25 4(0) = 5 7 4 = 18 = 7. Apparently Wayne Douglas Gretzky is destined to be considered a philosophical figure in the world of hockey.
SOUL URGE NUMBER
Your soul urge is your heart's desire, what you want to become. Do the same as above but only add the vowels (A, E, I, O, U) together. Also use Y if it is used as a vowel sound.
So for "Wayne Douglas Gretzky" it becomes AE OUA EY = 15 631 57 = 6 1(0) 12 = 1. So Wayne Douglas Gretzky wants to be a pioneer. I would say he succeeded.
INNER DREAM NUMBER
Your inner dream number is what you secretly desires and dreams, possibly something you may not even be aware of or acknowledge. Do the same as above but this time use only consonants and ignore vowels (only use Y if it is used as a consonant).
So for "Wayne Douglas Gretzky" it becomes 575 4731 79282 = 17 15 28 = 8 6 1(0) = 6. So Wayne Douglas Gretzky secretly wants to be a humanitarian and help people.
Also known as Traits and Lessons, your skill numbers are the individual numbers of your name broken down into groups to determine what skills you excel best at (and what your challenges will be). See the breakdown below for Wayne Douglas Gretzky.
Based on this we have determined that Wayne Douglas Gretzky is naturally curious (7) and quick thinking (5). Being quick thinking would be a handy skill for a hockey player. However he is challenged by being a manager, helping others, leading and being likeable. This doesn't mean he is particularly bad in those things (he still has 1 in each), but it does provide a challenge for him and he has to try harder.
The Life Path is the sum of the birth date and describes what you are and your journey through life. Convert the month, day and year into numbers and add them together.
Wayne Gretzky was born on January 26th 1961, which equals 1 26 17 = 8. So Wayne Gretzky's lifepath is to be a strong leader.
The birthday number modifies the lifepath number slightly. Wayne's birthday on the 26th also becomes an 8. So apparently he is a very strong leader.
And that is about it. The only thing left is to assess your results and say "Damn, Wayne Gretzky really lucked out!" As a special note, Wayne Gretzky's hockey jersey number "99" also denotes that he will be not just well liked and successful with money, but also a hero.
Numerology is fairly simple once you get the hang of it (hence why I think some other websites make it look way too complicated). Once you get the hang of it figuring out someone's numerology takes about 20 minutes and can be quite interesting.
It is also fun to use when choosing names for your children.
I don't recommend taking numerology too seriously however. Don't use it to vote for leaders or choose your spouse or major lifechanging decisions.
Have fun trying it for yourself.
